if you break a ring land?
most likely not. Your engine would be making an awful noise, have low compression on the affected cylinder.
The broken ring land of your piston would end up the exhaust if your lucky.

broke #5 ringland last year. had no noise or dipstick bullshit. just an intermittent misfire and down on power. mine is 01 also. heard this is kinda common for 01 engines!?! just go straight to compression test. mine broke between the compression rings and just below the oil ring. couldnt tell with heads off!!
I broke 2 ringlands (at the same time) and there was no noticeable debris. I knew right away, however, as the motor starting running rough and my breathers were smoking from all the blow by. Did a compression test 
and promptly pulled the motor.
BTW, it ruined that block. The ringlands swung out and scored the cylinder wall.
