Default c5r head port work

what sponsor here has most experience w/ the c5r heads...i now have a set of the 12480090 B heads, and am looking for someone who can get me the best flow possible out of them...every time i send an email to someone, i get the run around about compression and blah blah ...i know what the heads are about, and realize everything i need for them, just looking for someone to port them and maybe fab up an intake for me...ARE was the ones i was gonna have do it, but their recent downfall has made me decide else wise...i am thinking MTI, but when i talked to them, they didnt seem too interested, and wouldnt say the flow numbers they were getting...mti is probably my current first choice though...anyone, or any sponsers wanna help me out here?...thanks

MTI got about 390 cfm out of the pair they did for Colonel. That was their first and only set so far. Those heads flow HUGE numbers!

Since Katech has done a lot of work on those heads (for Chevrolet) you may want to call them. I think they may have a CNC program and hand finish on C%R stuff as they have done a tone of those heads...

Since the heads are similar in port layout to a splayed port SBC head, you might also talk to GTP or one of the shops that has messed with splayed valve stuff in the past.

Good luck with them... Advanced composites makes the runners on the C5R, the TBs are from Kinsler.

Katech does not port their C5R cylinder heads in house. They do all of there LS1/LS6 stuff in house but the C5R heads were/are done by Carl Foltz, CFE in Detroit.

Resto, check your PM's

How much were the heads, and what valve size are they set up for if you don't mind me asking.

I think Judson at SAM has some good flow on those, he could do the port and we could do the CNC. Let us know.

Thanks Chris. In case any one doesn't know, Chris worked for them, so he'd know. SO, I think I'd call CFE unless he has another suggestion...

thanks for all the reply's guys(i wasnt actually expecting any, lol)...any one else with any input here?...ill be making some phone calls tomorrow...btw, i got the heads for about 1150 each...i had a quote at 890 each, but when i called in the guy said it was a mistake(i was pissed, haha), and then he wanted 1280 each...usually the heads go for around 1250...depending on where u look, but i also picked them up, so no shipping.(i had a good hookup for the price). i think i will be using 2.15 intake valves, and im not positive about exhaust.

Ya might wanna contact Lamar Walden Auto in Doraville Ga as well. I know they have done a few sets of C5R heads recently. I heard they were hitting around 390cfm as well. LWA is currently building a C5R 427 for a local customer, expecting it to make around 750 @ the crank.

Lamar is a legend in the engine building world. I think one of the motors he did was for (I forgot his name). The Yenko owner who had Lamar's old 69 ZL1 Camaro, and was getting a new ZL1 (Camaro) built by Lamar with a set of C5R heads.

JRod, youre correct. He goes by GRB on the forums. He bought ZL1 51 and is having Lamar do the C5R 427 for it. Cant wait to see some results.

since you mentioned calling MTI, just so you know they are closed for the holidays until this Friday. I can only imagine the crapload of calls Wayne will get on Friday LOL!

I would definitely see if SAM could point you in some direction also, Judson keeps tabs on stuff like this.

The '69 is nowhere near done, doing some cleanup on the empty engine bay right now.

Katech did a a few sets that flowed over 400 cfm. They were a high port verison. All of the standard c5r heads were flowing at 385-395 cfm at peak.
