I also brake the bottom ball joints and leave the strut, spinde, caliper, and upper A arm in the car. The lower A arms stay on the K member.

I will be pulling my motor out within the next couple of days. For the experienced folks... wondering myself, where on the motor are you guys attaching the cherry picker to? its a m6, is it best to remove the tranny first, pull it out. then continue pulling the motor out or otherwise? same with the LT, remove with engine or remove first? (pacesetters) *sorry for highjacking. atleast were still on topic lol
johnzss, go thru the bottom if you have the ability in your shop and leave the harness on the motor. its rediculously easy doing it this way. I pulled the motor/trans out the top once and I made a plate that bolted in place of the intake manifold but trust me its WAY easier out the bottom
Thanks everyone for your help. it was very helpful. i ended up pulling out of the bottom and it was a breeze. it took 2 1/2 hours to drop it and i had it 100% complete the next weekend. so thanks again. it went well and fired right up. the new engine ended up haveing a cam in it!

Verdad Gallardo its really not that hard. all there is is 3 big bolts on each side of the k member and once when you get those out it just drops out. and i think i had mine at least 3 feet off the ground. and also there is 4 major ground wires you gotta worry about. there is 3 on the back of the heads and then one that goes in the block. also i dropped everything at once with out taking the trans off.
Ok thanks. I guess it just sounds and looks hard. ive been holding off doing it for awhile now too. but i might just do it here in the next couple weeks. just waiting for some parts.
the hardest thing is just making sure you have the whole wiring kit disconnected. and if you are dropping the engine and the trans put a jack stand under the trans or if you have another jack.ummm take the radiator and a/c out first, and then start disconnecting. you have sensors begind the motor. oil pressure sending unit, intake manifld, 2 on the trans and ten there is one more but i dont know which one it is. and then of course you have the ground wires.
Good job on your motor swap! I take the wiring with the motors its a lot easier. Just take the passenger kick panel off and unplug the two conectors (White and blue) remove the PCM and the harness comes out and the unplug the three or four connectors on the passengerside fender well the one wire on the fuse panel on the front drivers side of the car and a 10mm ground on the driverside frame rail.
