i was under the impression turbo was asking about the cam specs and the 409 was going into an fbody

Oops, I thought you were asking me and I had kinda side tracked the thread just a hair asking about a cam for a 409 in a truck.

I'm liking the idea of a 232/237//114 cam, it will lope but idle pretty well.

I might look at putting it in straight up or +2 depending on folks results.

I have a cam like that in my current SS.. You mean that is a good cam for a 409ci???? Still seems kind of small. Peak horsepower would never see 480rwhp..

I think the S1 would be perfert for good n/a power and spraying a 100-200 shot here and there!

I am going with this cam 244/248 .610/.614 112lsa
in my 408 when I get this damn thing together

Thanks guys
been thinking of a custom cam for the past few months and thats what I came up with. My goal is 520+rwhp with dual cut outs after the headers and 700+ on spray. Not sure if this cam will get me there but I am gonna try!!!
yeah i am also building my own motor.
good luck turbo

I will definately post the results of this 408 on motor and spray once I get this together

I am going with stage 3 GTP 5.7l heads still not sure on the valves...
and for fuel I still havent decided if I am gonna run a seperate fuel cell or do twin 340 intank pumps?
I already have a 340 intank and going with svo 30lb injectors along with ls1speeds high flow fuel rails.

How about you?

What do you expect the idle to be on a 244/248 cam?

Idle shouldn't be that bad on a 408/9..I would compare it to a 346 with a 230/230 or so.That's the range Cam I plan on my 422..

I am runing a TR 236 and 36 lb injectors, counting on the new intake's coming out soon to balance out the top end. This is with GTP stage 2 heads and a LS6 crank. I ran the QTP 1 7/8 long tubes as well. Very drivable and i am happy with the setup..

I had two different cams in my 422ci, first was 242/242/114 Lunati and the second one was a 244/244/112 S1. The first came idled much better than the second.

I think a 244/248/112 will idle pretty bad, and might need to idle around 1100. I could not get my S1 to idle lower than 1050.

Personally I would do a 114 LSA just for the better idle quality.

PSJ I bet that S1 made some nice power!?
I have thought about the 114 lsa but from what I have been hearing is that it wont make as much power on motor is that true?

I know the 114 would be a little better with a big shot

I am not too worried about how it idles since I dont drive the car everyday and its pretty much going to be my race car/weekend cruiser so as long as its fast thats all that matters

apacheidrill
how much rwhp rwtq is your car making?

How big a shot are you spraying?

I think unless you are spraying a 300 shot or bigger I would just spec the cam for NA but have a little wider LSA.

ie: 240/240 114LSA would idle like stock at 900rpm. With the added compression it would make crazy torque too.

Cheers,
Chris
