Question Help me ID this cam...

I've got a cam sitting in my garage that I need to find out who made it so I know who to call for a replacement cam card.....

On the back of it, it's got the following etched onto it:

y4491

Does anyone know who made this cam?

I bought a used cam a couple of years ago and tried to ID it by the numbers on the end.. never did have any luck. I ended up sending it to Thunder Racing and letting them stick it on their Camp Pro machine. I think it only costs like $25 and tells you everything about the cam.

did you buy the cam used or something? or is it old and you dont remember where you bought it from?

i agree with gomer, just have it cam doctored somewhere so you can have the official specs.

that's my last ditch option, as while it may only cost $25, it means I'd have to pay for shipping out and back to them, which adds up... all to just find out some cam specs.

I have the specs that the guy *said* the cam was, but without a cam card, I put no faith in that....

There's a great wealth of knowledge and experience here that I figured I could tap into....

TIA everyone!

Can you drive to a shop and have it thrown on a cam docotor ? That's what I would do to save on shipping.

More than likely that is a Comp Cam. Is there anything else inscribed on the cam?

The only TR cam we have in the computer with that serial # is a 227/224 114 cam.

Not that I can tell... now granted, I'm @ work, and the cam is sitting on my workbench @ home right now... I just inspected it, flipped it upsidedown and took note of the inscribed numbers on the bottom.... There may have been others, but they were small and illegible... I can look again tonight though.

Jason, is that the reverse split one, or the Nitrous FI cam?..... Just wondering cause I was told it was the TR 224/227 .563/.569 114 LSA cam... If I'm gonna use it in my setup, it'll make a BIG difference if it's the 227/224 vs. the 224/227

Matt, that cam spec'd out to 226.3 / 222.8 0.569/0.556 114.5*lsa. This is one of our reverse splits used primarily in n/a applications. The 224/227 is the cam you need for your FI setup.

More than likely, there are no other important numbers on the backside of the cam. You gave me all the info I needed. If you would like the cam sheet, send me a PM with your fax #.

Jason,

just wanted to give you and ThunderRacing a public thank you. Customer service like this is few and far between in the world, and is one of the reasons you guys are so very well known and will continue to be years to come! The fact that you are so open and willing to help out even though I wasn't the original purchaser of this cam from you guys is absolutely fantastic! I've never had a single experience with anybody up there that was anything short of downright outstanding and exemplary!

Hats off to Thunder!!!!

Its a comp grind. All of the comp grinds I've gotten from them have the y#### inscribed on the end of the cam....the F1 cam that I had ground in my garage currently has other numbers ground on it as well.
