Default difference in reluctor wheels

i have 2 cranks, one is out of a 98 that is trashed that im replacing with one from a 2000 i beleive. i noticed the reluctor wheels are different slightly. do i need to put the reluctor wheel off the 98 crank on the newer one? or just run a 2000 crank sensor?

For the year they have to be the same , they change in the 2005 with LS2 family motors.

im aware of the change from 24X to 58X or visa versa, but these are both LS1 cranks from GEN III motors, but they are ever so slightly different.

Sounds like the same question I asked awhile back. I had a '99 crank I was going to replace with a 2002 crank. From what I was told even though they look different they are still 24x and would be fine.

Here's my post:https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...or-wheels.html

Looks like my pictures are gone, here's a link to the pictures I had posted :

thats the exact difference in my two cranks. the spacing between the teeth is slightly different, and there seems to be a small space between the 2 wheels on the newer crank while the 2 wheels on the older one are pressed right up against eachother.

did you get your engine running? i just dont want to get this thing together to find it wont start because the PCM wont recognize it. what worries me even more is i have a 98 PCM, the bastard child of LS1 PCM's.

Actually, I changed direction and ordered a 383 rotating assembly, I assume the 4" crank I have coming will have the same "newer style" wheel as the '02 crank I have pictured. So, I'm hoping everything works, but I can't tell you first hand yet.

Hate to raise the dead, but bww3588 did you have any issues with the cranks? Facing the same issues now on my 99 TA. My old crank had no space between the wheels and my new one has a gap you can fit a penny in.
