Did you end up using the additional spacers when you checked for lifter pre-load. I know each setup will be different based on H/C setup. I have TEA 5.3 milled .015 and a TR224. From the procedure explained I had to use them to get the right pre-load. Just curious on other experiences and setups.
TIA

Check it though and you will be good...it only takes an extra minute per pair of rockers

Guess I was right on the spacers!!!!!! Finally got her together tonite after head and exhaust swap and OMG she purrs like a kitten. The combo with the 987's and rockers made a HUGE difference in the valve train noise! I think the roller rockers are definitely the trick for modded LS1's. BTW, I kinda almost **** my pants when I started it for the first time.....I heard alot of noise coming from under the valve covers and thought I was getting a rocker clearance problem....but soon realized it was the lifters pre-loading and soon went away. Just a typical hobby mechanic....Thank GOD I don't do this for a job. It is freakin' hard work...but worth it for my own car....I can't wait to get her out, but need to wait till after the WOW next week.

I have the same setup as yours - TEA 5.3L heads, TR224, milled, etc. It took me a few times to get the preload right. With 7.4" pushrods and no shims my preload was under 1 turn. With the shims it was about 1 1/4 turns. So I went with out the shims.
