Default Need help with combo.

I come from a mustang background. I know 302's 351's etc but I am clueless on the aftermarket parts for the ls1 350's. I will be picking up a 2002 corvette that has been wrecked but it only has 33,000 mi on it. In doing research on this site that motor cam with 350hp stock. Well, like most of you that's not enough. My last build was a vortech supercharged 302 H/C/I making around 470 at the flywheel.

I say all that to say,

What is the most cost effective way to get close to 400 rwhp or better quickest and least expensive. (Meaning I do not mind to use used parts) This motor will be going in a kit car GTM from factory five so exhaust mods are not needed. I can bolt on or I can go inside the motor but no NOS. Thank you for your time in advance. Kris

From looking around it seems that I can get near 400rwhp with the right cam? There are so many options. What are the most common tried and tested combos.

Example. With the 5.0 mustang... Most common budget build... Mild trick flow stage 1 cam, gt40 heads(from explorers) explorer intake(upper and lower) 93 cobra tb. This will take you from 225 stock to around 270-285hp.

I'm reading I'm just overwhelmed at the moment. Thanks, Kris

I have been reasearching for only two days so forgive my ignorance.

If I can get 400rwhp with a cam and exhaust. Maybe I should be shooting for 450rwhp or more.

So, ls6 heads, cam, and tune. Will the stock intake manifold support that or will it become the bottleneck. I'm not looking for 800 hp. But I want to get the most hp for my buck.

I guess the thing for me is that I don't really know what to search. If it was a ford I could tell ya various heads, cams, intakes etc. I just haven't learned all the names of the budget combos. Thanks for the link. Fast intake, stored in brain. Kris

if you search around here for head cam combos. There is also a section for just dyno numbers with some stickies that would help you.

FWIW, I am currently building my third GTM at work. 400hp in these cars is enough. We built one that has 605hp at the wheels and one with slightly over 400 at the wheels. They are both rockets. Even being mid engine the one with 605hp will light up the tires at 60mph by just rolling into the gas pedal pretty quick.

The trick for easy power are the heads. get a good set of heads like AFR205s or TFS 220 as cast and just sit back with a mild 224 cam.

Just one more piece of info for you since your new to LS engines. I'm guessing you have an LS1 vette, starting in 2001 all LS1s from the factory came with the better LS6 intake which is a nice improvement. So just a heads up.
