Default low boost and tons of miles

i kinda felt this post was needed just because this is about the internals and what not

well ive decided i wanna turbo my car and i kinda dont want to tear into the motor unless absolutely necessary and i was thinkin only goin with 4-5psi.

but the problem is that i have 178,xxx miles on my car and idk if its just too far along for it and a build is needed or if its safe. i can wait on a build and rods and pistons and what not id just kinda like to do it now if its safe to.

any insight would be appreciated

Now listen 178K is a lot of miles on the internals to be doing much of anything to.

Me personally would look in ebay, craigs list or some where that you can get an LS1/LS6 low miles cheap or an LQ4/LQ9. I personally would not boost it, low boost or not that is a lot of miles on rods, rod bolts, pistons, crank, and all the accompanying bearings. Its up to you. The iron blocks last for ever and can take any boost u throw at them. just my .02

Build a moter first then boost it. Boost is a drug and 4-5 #'s will be cool for a day and then you'll wan't 10 #'s.....Then 15 #'s. Also the rest of your car has 178,xxx miles and will need some attention... Trans, rear end, suspention, ect.

Sorry for the thread Jack, but what if I have a high mileage motor and put new bearings and steel rings?

Have you done a compression check? What's the oil pressure?
Can you afford it if the motor tanks in a week when you turn the boost up to 10lbs?(thats something I would do)

with that milage it could last a week or last a few years. Hard to judge, also depends on how hard you drive it.

Id say boost it if you realy have the itch but keep cash aside and an eye out for a used motor.
