Default Why did you choose your cam?

There are alot of different cams out there and a lot of different reasons to choose a certain one. What were you looking for in a cam and why did you ultimately decide on the one you chose... auto, M6, power adder, All Motor, keeping stock heads/stock manifolds, idle, power up top/down low, street racer, drag car, road racer, daily driver, weekend car...? List your reasons, cam specs, SAE Dyno numbers if you have them and related mods. Lets see what we get. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

LS1 Hotcam: 218/227 112 0.525

Reasons for buying? In sorta of an order *L*

- dealer honouring extended warranty if they did the install

- price (best by far when you factor in the spings that came with the kit)

- decent gains on stock heads (or even stage I's which I'll be going with later on).

- a good nitrous cam (thinking about that too *L*)

- relatively mild lift is easy on springs so no big worries there

- wonderful lumpy loping muscle car idle (hey I like it! *L*)

Overall a modestly priced cam kit that my dealer would maintain warrany on, and that is a reliable, proven performer on mildly modded cars. This cam with mods in sig has me trapping at 115+mph. No dynos in my area but that translates roughly to ~380rwhp right now and I still have quite a few bolt ons to go (MAF, TB, LS6 intake, ASP pulley, FLP dual cutouts) before I even touch the heads. So I'm certainly satisfied with the Hotcam results so far! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> This is all in keeping with my ultimate goals for my car which is to have a reliable daily driver, that while it may not put down the BIG numbers on the dyno or ET wise at the track, it will more than hold it's own against 99% of cars out there and get me where I'm going on a day in/day out basis. And I still get 28mpg on the highway *L*.

I wanted the biggest cam I could get and pass emissions. I like lope.

TR224 112 563

Daily driver, autox every weekend, drag race 3-4 times a year.

I just sold my 75 Cutlass and I am going with the GM Hot Cam too, pretty much for the exact reasons he listed. BTW, if it equated to about 380rwhp with the bolt ons you have what do you think I will make with SLP Lid, BBK 80mm TB, ASP crank/alt, SSRA, Holley powershot, SLP MAF, HPP3, 160 stat, and SLP y-pipe and loudmouth?
<img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
Im also gonn ago with Hooker LT's for emssions reasons and price. I wanted SLP LT's but I hear they wont pass smog?

I wanted the most I could get out of stock heads, and then good power out of ported heads as well. I also wanted a nice lope, but nothing to bad. Not worried about emissions, not worried about driving like stock. I wanted something that was going to put up impressive numbers at the track but that I could live with on the street every day - but I have a high tolerance <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Oh and it helps when a friend has the same cam and you can see exactly when/where/how he got those times.

No LTs will pass the visual test because of the relocation of the cats. If you get cats then you should have no problems passing the actual sniffer test.

222/222 .560 114+2

I wanted to keep a almost stock idle and didnt want to worry about springs with excess lift. Car is a summer daily driver, stored during winter. Visit the track 2-3 times a year and am planning on getting into autox this year. The +2 advance helped to keep the lower rpm range feeling stock. Couldnt be happier with my choice. I ran a Hotcam in my previous LT1 and got a little tired of the lope.

Still sounds like a lot to me, but hey if you're right that's what I'm getting too!! Actually, I'm looking at the C1 Hammer cam 222/222 .566/566 on 112 LSA. I want some lope, emissions legal, no busted springs, and able to run like a raped ape!

I'm a big C1 Hammer cam (112) fan myself. Reasons are:

Good power with Stock heads

Great power with Stage 2 heads

Never have to turn the stock 346 bottom end over 6500 rpm to achieve that power.

Very streetable , but gives that muscle car thump.

Pushed my daily driver into the 10s N/A.

Thanks John Campbell.

That's my .02

I wanted good bang for the buck on stock heads and reliability so I went with the hotcam. This was when I imagined that the car was going to be a daily driver <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" /> I've been happy with the cam and it will stay in there until Mr. 427 comes calling <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Dam, no cookie! I've been robbed! I was fooled by this statement:

First cam (current cam) GM Hotcam. Chose it for price. Love it. Been beating it up for 2 years 20k+ miles. Performed good no problems what so ever. Dyno #'s in Sig. no 1/4 times. Only 1000' tracks in cheep ole arkansas. 9.9@106 in the 1000' equivalent to 11.9 @ 116 in the 1/4.
New cam (going in with heads next weekend i hope) is a 224/224 .581/.581 @112 Chose it because i wanted bigger with the new heads. And the 224 has a good rep. I chose the more lift 224 to go along with the flow #'s on my heads. Hope i like it as much as the hotcam (i expect more) but if it acts as good as the hotcam for daily driving ill be jumping for joy!
Edit forgot Sig.
