Default Smoke came in car from the shifter?

Ok so I was pulling onto the highway and got on it in 1st and 2nd and let off around 5k in 3rd I didnt miss a shift or hit the rev limiter or anything like that. Now when I let off about 1 sec later I see smoke comming up from my shifter, its a m6 btw. It was not a ton of smoke or anything like that but I could see it pretty well and mind you, I am going about 60 MPH now and it keeps on smoking for about 10 sec it also smelled a lot like gas it was not burning rubber or anything like that. I drive the car home took about 5 min and check the engine and nothing is leaking and it sounds normal, What could cause this, I was wondering if it could be an exhause leak or something minor like that or does this sound serious?

I dont think its that. I ran 5 gallons of 110 leaded fuel in it about 4 weeks ago, I had about 1/4 tank of 93 octane fuel when i added the race fuel and it did the same thing just not near as bad I could hardly see the smoke and it only did it once and for a very short peroid of time. O and I was just crusin at about 35 then Didnt go WOT or anything like that.

First off why are you running 110 race gas? Is your car tuned for that? What color was the smoke? White, bluish, black?

the color of the smoke tells you exactly what is causing the smoke too (gas oil etc)

Yes I got performance tune from Jeremy Formato and I only added a little then went and filled the car up so I am guessing it brought it up to around 100 octane or so. My mechanic said it would be ok. Also the smoke was white it did not look blue or black at all, kinda grey white color.

Performance tune and "tuned" for 110 are 2 different things. So the answer is No.

I did not run 100% race fuel so do you think it really matters. I just wanted a little higher octane cause the car had been sitting all winter.

you shouldn't need race gas though. you up the compression and then you need race gas. stock compression doesn't need it. anyway i'm thinking you might have a small puncture in your exhaust near the engine . . . doubtful but it could happen

was it raining?

i had a similar thing happen to me. but it looked like white smoke and you can tell it was evaporation. specially is you have long tubes. I hit a puddle of water and it made a beautiful sound like boiling water and then the white smoke came into the cabin area via the shifter hole.

Leaded race gas will burn up your 02's. Ask me how i know.

Thought i'd make my car "smell better" for the woodward dream cruise, so 5 gallons x $4.50/gal = $22.50 + new 02's ~$120 equals $142.50 tank of gas. That was mixed half/half with 93 octane.

Got a SES light? You may be dumping fuel and it may be smoking cause of that.

Just my $.02

Yea i know leaded gas will gum up you o2s and the guy I bought it off of said that, but he runs a 50/50 mix in his 96-97 mustang when he takes it to the track and his are still fine. Bottom line is I dont run it all the time this was the first time I had ever ran it in the camaro and might be the last. O and I figured out why it was smoking the other day its nothing serious. When the guy who had it before me had the motor rebuilt they cut a seal off in the back of the motor (I cant remember what its called) but he said they do it all the time with ls1 cause if you dont you have to take off the whole front dash to get to it.I got an appointment setup tuesday and I will explain this in more detail then.

I rich or mismatched fuel mixture will put out a light puff of dark smoke upon going WOT. Its very common as most dont notice it because its behind the car. But have someone ride right behind you and you lay into it pretty hard and I bet they will see it. However, 110 octane is still a no go. You are hurting more then helping.
