Default How do I remove Piston from the Rod?

Hey guys,

How do I go about removing the pistons from the connecting rods? I've read a few things that a machine shop has to press them in..

Is there a way to do it yourself?

Thanks!

By a press. I bent a 10ton and now have a 20 ton. Harbor frieght stuff works just fine. I bent the first press doing something with another car. Rods should be pretty easy since they don't get all rusted out. I've also done it with a big vise before, but nice ones cost as much as cheap press and I wouldn't skimp on a cheap vice. I've broken one of the cheap chinese made ones before when it should not have broken.

If you don't like the price of a press, send it to machine shop.

be carefull if your going to reuse the pistons

they make a special fixture for pressing out piston pins in a press

you need a press and the fixture, then when you want to put the piston back on you just heat up the rod

heres some pics of the fixture
