Smile z06 cam

All of you guys that installed a z06 cam in your ls1 what was the push rod length you use. I have a comp cam 228r with a 588 lift in my 2001 ss now and was thinking to replace it with a z06 cam from a 2002 vette. Thanks James

if you have stock heads, not milled, then just go find some stock ls6 pushrods as they will be dirt cheap... no need for hardened rods for the stock ls6 cam imo...

The base circle on the LS6 cam is ~.050 smaller than the stock LS1 cam, but uses stock pushrods when used with LS6 valves, which are ~.050 longer. If you use stock LS1 heads and valves, the pushrods would need to be roughly ~.050 longer to compensate for the drop from the cam circle. Its always better to measure though.

depends, I wouldn't use stock push rods if he upgraded to any type of aftermarket spring at all really, especially good ones.

base circle/2 = .025, will need .025 longer pushrods...LS6 valve stems are 6mm longer, which is .024...but you did get one thing right, always measure

Im not trying to but in here so please dont take offense but when you add .025 on the push rod you do compensate for the smaller base circle but what your not thinking about is that you are also adding .025 to the nose of the cam. When you add .025 to the nose of the cam you have to multiply by 1.7 for rocker ratio and you end up adding .0425 to over all lift. Even z06 springs will not allow this lift. People do this swap all the time and NORMALLY does not end up causing catastrophic failure but z06 springs are only supposed to carry a .580 lift and you will end up having .594/.598. That 30hp could cost you big

Put the crack pipe down. That's not the way it works with hydraulic lifters.

He had me worried, cause I installed the Z06 cam, with springs, and 7.450 rods. Seem to run great!

idk ive been messing around with ls6 valves on different types of heads and i cannot get anything consistant to the point where i think 243s are cast with different rocker height. i think your gonna have to measure.
