Scotch brite leaves an abrasive residue behind, so you need to be sure to wash the heads very well after cleaning. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...&Number=563163

Scrape the big stuff off first. Stuff some lint free clean rags in the cylinders and lightly scuff the surface with the least abrasive roloc disc on a die grinder.

use some permatex gasket remover then the plastic razor blade. the permatex will dissolve a lot of the old stuff and loosen the rest for the razor blade. usually takes me about 20 min for both sides

Any worry with where you spray the permatex? Places to tape off?

Very slow-going... I'm using the gasket spray and plastic blades. Seems I may be here a while...

All I can say cleaning off the gaskets sucks and I only had to clean my iron block. I used gasket remover and razor blade which worked the best then I block sanded the deck with 400 grit soaked in wd-40. Came out nice and smooth. I also used a straw taped in my shop vac hose to clean out the bolt holes. That was the best thing for the holes and only took 5 minutes and holes were clean and dry.
