Lower oil pressure after double roller install
Hey ,
So after installing my manley double roller timing chain, and the spacer plates my oil pressure has dropped to around 138 Kpa or 20 psi @ idle when hot. it used to be just under 275 Kpa (39 PSI) before spacing out the pump.
i am assuming this dropped pressure is due to the fact that the spacer plate allows some oil to squeeze through. oil is mobil 1 10W30 full synthetic.filter is K&N
i dont drive my car in winter or the like , and always wait until it has reached operating temp. before i beat on it a bit .
my question is, can i run a heavier weight oil in my car?
like 15W30 etc etc ....
advantages/disadvantages of heavier weight oil , other than it'll be sluggish when its cold ?
Thanks in advance
also thinking about switching back to the AC delco filter and trying Amsoil

One of two things might have happened if all you did was change the timing set. First, the o-ring may be pinched. Second, if you installed the driver's side spacer incorrectly it will block the flow to the block. Not sure what you did to the car while apart, but it sure sounds like you have an issue that needs attention rather then just going with heavier oil.

i made sure i had the drivers side spacer plate lined up correctly. if i it werent the oil would flow strait out the gap , and there would be zero pressure. when i installed it i put the new blue o-ring on the pick up tube, tightened it up , and then installed the plates as has been mentioned on here. @ idle its lower, but as soon as it picks up RPM (over 1100 rpm) it jumps up to 275 Kpa. as it gains RPM it climbs over 275 and stays @ about 300 kpa.

I had this problem a couple a years back with my old motor i installed a double roller and lost oil pressure took everything apart and found that the new crank gear was not seated all the way in the block after it was seated right put everything back together oil pressure was back to normal but check your o-ring,spacers good luck
