Another cam choice thread! Opinions wanted!
I am planning on upgrading to the PRC LS6 stage one heads from Texas speed.
I have been considering 3 of their cams so far:
TSP 228R 228/228 .588/.588 1600-6300 RPM Power Band 112 lsa
233/239 233/239, .595"/.603" 1900-6500 RPM Power Band
Torquer v.2 232/234 .595/.598 1800-6400 RPM Power Band
The car : 99 Corvette, 6 speed, stock 3.42 rear. LS6 manifold, Vararam, longtube headers and Corsa pace car mufflers. ECS tune. So far ran a best of 12.61 before the headers and tune. 30k miles on it.
Not a daily driver.
Don’t care about idle sound – or idle quality as long as it doesn’t keep stalling.
None of my choices are what I would consider a really “big” cam; I just want the most torque and the flattest curve. These cams seem so similar; I am now leaning towards the Torquer. I am trying to avoid the dreaded “I should have went with a bigger cam syndrome”
Any opinions and thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

When I ran a TV2 and put PRC Stage 1 243s on the car it picked up 50 RWHP. I never had any idleing or surge problems even with the AC on. I had the cam that was ground on a 111. It had a lite chop sound to it at idle.

Out of those, I honestly would run the 233/239. I wish i would have went with that cam the first place. Its a good size cam, and probably the biggest i would run in a daily driver, fun street car. I have a 230/227 and my cam is so civil. I have thought about upping my cam to that 233/239, but for me i dont think ill gain a whole lot.

Someone suggested looking in the dyno section. That is a pretty good suggestion and you can sort of see how these compare not only in peak but more importantly in where they make power.
All in all if you go with sort of mainstream ramps you will probably find that you might be best suited with intake duration at .050 in the low-mid 220s... like the ubiquitous TR224, or the TSP 224R (or even EPS 222/226).
