Default All around good cam 228R , TR224 or Custom

I have been reading tons of threads from the newbee cam guides to the power under the curve and small cam threads to the monster cam threads. I have even jumped in on a couple lately (sorry if I tampered with anyones threads). I am just really in need of a little advise from some of you guys that have alots more experience with cammed cars. Ok here goes M6 full boltons, ls6 intake, ported tb,lt headers ect.. 241 casting heads (stock). Car is a daily driver as of right now . But I enjoy going to the track and messing around on the street. I just dont know which of these would be the best for my needs tr224 , 228r or a custom spec. by patrick . I want to power band 2000-6400 I dont want to have to spin the motor to death to make power and would like the lift under 600 (dont want to kill the valvetrain).I guess im looking for power under the curve but something that doesnt run out of gas up top 6400 rpm being top, good street manners , some lope to it and 400hp if I could get there .Any information would be great.

2 great choices. I would do the 228R cause its a bit bigger than the 224. I have something like the TR224 and I really wish it was bigger, like a 230-234...fun cam, but not enough. Its never enough.

228R for off the shelf is a great choice, power under the curve is what I was looking for too. But Pat G is the man for a custom cam.

A 224 duration cam is an awesome all around cam and if you look, some have done some pretty great things with them. That being said, everyone that has had one wants to go bigger. Go 228R plus.

I've seen a recent thread were Pat G spec'd a custom cam that sounded completely stock and with stock LS6 heads made 430rwhp on an A4 car. You can do wonders with the newer lobe technology. XFI, LSL, EPS lobes.

Another camshaft I would look at from us is the TR230/224 camshaft. Makes phenomenal power under the curve, and it works best with the stock casted heads. It drives just as good as our TR224 camshaft but makes better overall power without sacrificing the driveability of the bigger camshafts on the market. Do a search and you will see that the TR230 cam makes the power. It definitely has a little bit more lope than the TR224 does.

224 - too small

a 228 would be a good cam if you dont plan on upgrading heads.

230 duration - a little more power than the 228, but alot more when you put a set of heads on them.

if you plan to do heads in the future i would go with a 230-232 rang cam with close to .600 lift

Futral Motorsports has the FMS- F6-112, 226"/230" .575"/.595" 112LSA, or you can get it with a 114LSA.

Well I will be upgrading the heads and also going with a fast set up in the future so I love the idea of putting in a cam that works really good with what I have now but also has some room to grow.I did look at the TR230/224 and also the F6, will these cams keep the power ware I want it though? I really dont want to have to spin the crap out of the motor and I dont want a really "peaky" cam. Thank you all for your input.

i honestly wouldnt go any smaller than a 228 cam. definitely go with something in the mid 230 duration range.

The F6 will give you a nice wide power band 2000-6800rpm, you could go bigger but I'd go no bigger than a 228/232 to keep the power where you want it. Yes bigger cam will give you more power, but not down low.
A F11(228/230) would also be a good option.

Another option is to call Geoff at EPS and have him custom spec you a cam, that's what I did.

When did the power come on and peak if you dont mind me asking, how did it feel down low ?

I really like the looks of the F6 , Did you have this cam ? if so how was the torque curve?
Would the F11 in your opinion "give me room to grow"?

I have also herd alot about him as well , Geoff and Patrick both .

I am pretty much convinced that Tr224 may not be what im looking for from what you all have been telling me. I still really like the 228r , F6 , F11, and the Tr230/224 . I would love to hear any experiences with these cams . Thanks again for the help.

I have a tr224, but also wish I went slightly bigger like the 228, right now my car is tuned like **** and it feels like its a 240 cam. The tune is 100% of the drivability. I would say a 228-230 duration will be what you're looking for and not need to rev over 6400 and like you said somewhere around .580 for lift to be easy on the drivetrain. I would go to PatG to spec you a cam though, it amazes me on the power cars make with his spec'd cams.

Don't get me wrong though, the tr224 is a great cam for a daily driver and mid range power.
