Default Pulling the heads

I've searched but haven't found an answer. Can the heads be pulled with the engine still in the car on an 01 z28? Any hints or advice on this. I'm thinking about upgrading to an ls7 lifter and different length pushrod and was told the heads had to be pulled to get to the lifters.

Yeah they need to be pulled to get to the lifters, did a lifter fail?

IMO, not worth it to pull the heads just to switch lifters unless you are also doing a head swap and possibly a cam. There is alot of work to be done, you'll also need new head gaskets and head bolts....I would really think about this and search thru some threads for past experiences and notes on how to do this. It can be disastorous if not performed correctly.

The car has an MS4 cam in it. I'm just getting a lot of valvetrain noise. I've read where LS1's have a noisy valvetrain, but my noise seems to be overkill. It does have the stock lifters in it. Any suggestions on toning the clicking down some? the car has good oil pressure.

Just pull the valve covers, measure what size pushrod you need and throw them in. To pull the heads your gonna need to spend around $150 on new bolts and gaskets, and it's way too much work just to swap in ls7 lifters.

Yes, the heads can be removed while the motor in still in the vehicle. If what you're hearing isn't lifter tick, it is most likely attributed to improper pushrod length/lifter preload. A $20 adj. pushrod is all you'll need.
