Default Heads/Cam suggestions

Alright guys, I've got a spare 99 ls1 with 60k miles on it. It currently has some hot cam or equivalent in it. I'm wanting to do a moderate h/c combo on it with an ls6 intake. It will be going into a 6spd fbody. Any suggestions to get low to mid 400's out of it? I've been to different vendor sites and read through their "packages" but I'm still unsure. Trying to keep it within a reasonable budget. If I had a ton of money I'd get Trickflow heads and a custom cam for the setup.

I am basically in the same boat as you , but I have been researching cams for about two months now. Patrick G. is basically "the man" on Ls1tech and for good reason. Look up some threads on some of the custom cams he had done. I am amazed at the power he has made in vehicles with his cam knowledge. Before my research I was going to go with the 228r , after seeing his work, custom cam from Patrick all the way.

Unported 243's with a 5 angle valve job I performed, milled .020 to 62cc (11:1 compression). Custom BRE 224 cam with self ported fast 85mm intake. I've yet to see a set of any budget ported heads compare to the tq my setup makes. 365 rwtq @ 3000 rpm, 400 tq @ 3800 rpm. Pulls clean to 6800 rpm with out dropping off like a rock (most off the shelf cams). Not too many 224 cams out there doing that, have an expert spec your valve train who does this for a living. 444 rwhp / 414 tq here
