Default MTI r1 combo question

I have the r1 grind (232/236 57x/57x 114) With ported and valve job 98 heads with an ls6 intake on stock bottom end street strip car.

Curious if i should install the cam straight up. Also should i have the heads milled at all? Not interested in flycutting so keep that in mind.

Thanks in advance guys.

I have a 4000 stall 4.10 about 3100 pounds but still stock rod bolts so will be shifting at 64-6500.

I would dot to dot that sucker and button it up. That cam is a tad on the dated side IMO. Only way we are going to be able to tell you is.....well, we accurately can't. You will have to measure PTV and then take the heads in with that measurement and have them take off some material and still leave you with a tolerable clearance to insure if valve float were to occur, you won't start shoving holes through the combustion chambers.

I would think you could probably be okay with a cleanup mill, but that is all I want to tell you without having some measurements to look at.

I'd suggest installing that cam at 110* ICL (+4) or even a 108 (+6).
This assumes there is no advance ground in...should tell you on the cam card.

that's a sizeable cam for a LS1, I feel the valve events look better at at 110 ICL. You'll still pull up high with the duration that it has.

I would guess on a 110 ICL it would peak around 6300 and carry past 6600 a bit with a FAST IM. That is about what my similiar cam does on a 111.....

edit: Actually my ICL 109....

Bump About to actually toss this in.

With a 6500 shift point im thinking a 108 ICL will bring the powerband

Running a pt4000 3.42 ls6 intake

No don't do that. Dot to dot. Use a straight-edge through the centerline of the cam and crank to verify the dots are aligned, and not off by a tooth.

You pretty much have to be, in order to give advice on the internet. No sane, rational person would do it.
