Because it costs alot more to go that route. I would have saved about a grand if I would have built my own engine, but my rod punched a nice hole in the side of mine so I had to buy a block to start with, I ended up getting a shortblock from scoggin dicky

custom grind on the cam...i can see making power on a hydraulic setup to around 7k but really it would be counting little ants after 7 on most cams. 6.7-6.8k is plenty to make your power. if you do spin 7+ make sure you have a good top end incld lifters. ls7 will take 7 but not much more. go with caddy's. now to reach that 500 goal it would need a very good setup. good flowing intk, heads, valvtrain, exhaust, etc... and more compression maybe running higher octane fuel so you can run more timing. 2deg can make a world of difference as long as there is no knock found. as for the oil pump... try lingenfelter, they have some high flow pieces for around 90 bucks. the only problem with that, you cant run double roller timing sets. but im sure a ls2 timimg chain is more than enough. good luck bro

LS2 chain is totally more than enough. Anyone that thinks otherwise, well...To stay on track LS2 chain is BANG 4 THE BUCK cheap compared to the double roller and the double pain in the *** they can be.

I can tell ya what it takes. An improperly balanced motor. Vibrations will rape a timing set.
