Damage to nitride coating, possible effects on spring strength While I was cleaning a set of PAC springs, I accidentally set a couple down on a wet (water) surface, and by the time I noticed and wiped them dry, it looked like a stripe of the nitride coating where it had been lying, had come off.
Now I'm wondering if this will have any effects on the strength of the springs? I know it seems ridiculous that a coating would have any effect on the metallurgical properties of the springs, but if there wasn't a reason for them, they wouldn't be there in the first place, and they're promoted as helping strength and friction of the springs.
Am I overreacting?

Not a good pic, but you can see a bit what I'm talking about. I plan on contacting PAC anyways, cause the measurement on coilbind on the box doesn't match what's on the website, so I want to find out if I have an old batch, so I'll ask about the coating at the same time. I just wouldn't think the coating would be as easy to rub off.
