Default Pushrods real close to hitting on Trickflow 220 heads

i just finished putting the valvetrain all together and i noticed that every single intake pushrod is very close to rubbing on the head. the exhaust pushrods are dead center in the wholes. im running stock rockers and only 5/16 trickflow pushrods which are .080 wall chromoly. i was thinking about upgrading to 11/32 or 3/8 pushrods since im running a length of 7.550.

i could still return the pushrods and order some custom length 11/32 double tapper pushrods but not sure if they are going to fit if i do get them.

anyone else have this problem with these heads?

do you guys think it would be wise to upgrade to a thicker pushrod or will i be ok with what i got...i will be turning to 7000 rpm and at 650 hp

thanks guys

joe

check out this dyno I did between the two pushrods...I don't have as cast but 215 heads and the max that would fit are the 11/32" pushrods...I tried 3/8" and had the same problem you did with the intakes rubbing...stability was the same and I think you will be fine with the 5/16s...

If you can fit the 11/32 even if they are .010" close to the head Or even closer I would still run them.

Chris,

Curious, is the blue curve in the pushrod dyno the 5/16"? Reason I ask is my two lied on top of each other until about 6,200 RPM where the last several hundred RPM the stiffer double tapered pushrod provided about 5 more hp. The curve flattened a bit with the stiffer pushrods.

One advantage of double taper is to address exactly the problem you are having. Once you get near the end of the pushrod the diameter will be nearly 5/16". You can calculate a rough diameter to see if you will have a problem. Here is some other information that you might find useful.
