Default 300 shot 383 ci long block suggestions

Hello there

a friend is asking me to ask what piston brand and cc to order for a 383 ci kit that he`ll install locally with his current 5.7 ls1 block

plus what heads ? an aftermarket is in mind in the budget of off the shelf AFR 205-215-225 but what cc and what size valves

will be for a 300 nitrous shot use with a CheaTR cam

there I asked ^_^

I would use a 6.0 with piston and rod personlly with a custom stealth cam but that`s what he wants

thanks in advance hope people that tried this will join in

a 6.0 piston will not work.. that is for 4" bore, a 383 ls1 will be a 3.903 or 3.905 bore with a 4" crank.. my suggestion for that power level would be at least a wiseco or even better a diamond piston also dont forget a steel top ring and they should be gapped accordingly for your shot of nitrous.. try not to skimp on the rotating assembly, it is nice to not have to close your eyes and pray every time that bottle hits!

I meant if it was me I would use an iron 6.0 with the stok crank and only pistons and rods but that`s not what he wants

oh and will be using 93 oct fuel but it would be nice to use 91 and only 93 for the hit

93 octane won't work with a 300 shot.. well, it might once.. even with the best bottom end, not enough octane will destroy it.

As far as piston brand goes I would recommend either Wiseco or Diamond pistons hands down. Both companies put out a great piston set with a nice thick crown for large amount of power adder. All Wiseco pistons now come with a steel top ring making them a really good deal.

What's wrong with Mahles?

There is nothing wrong with Mahle pistons. But for a 300 shot I would definately want a piston with a 2618 forging on it. Mahle pistons feature a 4032 forging which is not quite as strong as the 2618.
