Jayson of MTI will be finishing my brand new 427 Ironblock stroker this week for my 98 C5. He just told me to drive it fairly easy for the first 200 to 300 miles and not abuse it during that period, and after that, ITS ***** TO THE WALLS!

I will probably drive it fairly easy for about 500 miles b/f going nuckin futs.

I would do a 500 mile break in, then change the oil, vary the RPM's, don't cruise on the highway, do a lot of city driving...I wouldn't really romp on it at all, but as soon as you pass 500, put the foot to the floor...

I just got mine Feb 1st. I drove it 500, changed the oil ( dino ) and filter, and plan on driving another 500 on dino then switching to synthetic. I'm at 850 now. Haven't romped yet as it hasn't been above 35 here yet.

I drove around for less than a mile to see if the oil pressure was good, no unusual noises, etc. and then it was on the dyno.

I've always used this technique (and GM recommends it for their crate engines).

Cruise at 30 MPH in OD (for an A4) or 3rd (for a manual). Floor it until you reach 80 MPH. Let off the accelerator and let the engine slow down the car. When it gets to 30 MPH, do it again. Don't worry about up/down shifts with an auto, but for a manual just take it up to near red line. Repeat this for 3-5 times. This will seat the rings properly.
