Default Oil pump replacement question

I will be doing a cam swap (blower cam to go with a TVS 1900..any cam recomendations?) and replacing the oil pump atthe same time (ported ls6 is my plan). do i need to drop the oil pan to swap pumps? or will having the front cover off be enough? Thanks for your help! I did a search bun couldn't find this answer. Hopfully i dont need to pull the engine..

Finishing up my cam install now. You will need to drop all oil pan bolts (12 total I think) to drop the pan about 1''. A 10mm gear wrench will be VERY handy for this.
