I'm in Calgary. I'd go with an LS1 block if I could find one and the price was right. I'm starting to lean towards a 5.3 iron block now, too. Simple, strong, cheap and abundant. I know they work, and work well.

He is at least in the northern part of the states, although it is still quite a distance considering Calgary is north of Montana?

Calgary appears to have an auto parts availability problem in general. I looked at the Calgary Craigslist and I couldn't even find an Auto Parts section.

Calgary here as well. I know the pain of trying to find decent parts here.

Anymore new info on this? I have an 07 aluminum LC9 engine thats water damages and I need to have it bored with new pistons, I can get a pic if anyone needs to see it. Im no engine builder, but would like to gain some additional cubes.

I couldn't find enough information on this so I decided to go with an iron block. Bored it to 3.907 but haven't run it yet. I have between .115 and .175 of wall thickness left on the iron block.

It's a crapshoot on those aluminum blocks, I didn't want to be the guinea pig.

I wouldn't bother with boring if you really are going to use a blower. Put in pistons with a little less compression and lean on the blower a little more and you can make much more power than the diffrerence a small bore increase will give you.

That doesnt even make any sense! a 5.3l with a blower will make MORE power than a 5.7l with the same blower?

Thanks for any experienced or well-researched advice.
The answer is yes.

I have a 5.3 aluminum bored to 3.905 and stroked to a 383. The aluminum 5.3 has a thicker cylinder sleeve to make the smaller bore.

KenP what year 5.3 was yours? A Gen III or Gen IV? I can post pics of the engine I have, but I am willing to bet it can be done. Figure if I have to clean up the piston walls and get new pistons might as well gain some cubes in the process.

I would rather go from a 5.3 to a 6.3, raise the compression a bit AND lean on the blower a bit more. More power out of boost and more torque all around.

Reviving a a dead horse here, but since Google pointed me to this post, may as well respond.

Any boring, whether sleeves or original iron, would be best discussed with the machine shop. They would be able to tell you definite answers for your build. Just make sure it’s a machine shop you thoroughly trust. After all, you are talking about spending several thousand dollars when it’s all done.

if you guys need blocks/motors I can help. Can ship int no prob. FYI, tons of bad info in this thread. If you want a best bang per buck, go 5.3 iron/alum. Boring either to 5.7 no prob. Add ported 243 heads or TFS and hit it. Easy 500hp NA and reliable. W/ boost, 1200hp is your limit. Let me know, will help with a group shipment. I have shipped motors all over the world.

The Summit stuff is fantastic for the $$$, btw. You can't go wrong w/ an all Summit build.
