Owen, my comments were not directed @ you. I feel your commets about what AFR told you were absolutely factual. My issue is with folks automatically making all sorts of assumptions about something they've never even seen. I think Ed is in a pretty good postion to comment, since he has a set to play with...

Gee, why does this thread look familiar?
Reminds me off all the AFR vs TW head threads on the mustang boards.
& what it really comes down to (head wise) is velocity (as some have mentioned).
I say it all the time to the Ford guys.... Velocity is key in making good power.
But it really comes down to the entire combination. You can't have 1 good part & expect it to make up for the rest of the combination.

I've seen combinations with heads that flow 50+cfm less then another combinations, yet run faster at the track. I recently built a combination JUST to prove this point.

Has AFR released the flow numbers for the 225cc heads yet?

(i grasp some of what was said) without trying to start another 7 page thread

I don't yet have enough data on the heads to make a profile for them. I do believe EDC is working on some AFR specific cam profiles though...& he has enough knowledge of these heads to make them. I'm curious to see what he can do with his cams on the LS1.....our views on profiles for these motors differ...

Does anybody know if these are the as-cast versions or the CNC versions?

There are stage 2 heads in the 310-320 range now with a cc of about 215-227 at .600 lift.

2.05 / 1.57 valve or a 2.02/1.57 combo.

AFRs look good, I just think the chamber is a wee bit big

Hey Pony..

Already getting things in motion for the AFR combos as well as the trick "drop-in" valve spring/ti retainer/lock deal. I've got to get you a pic of the cool valve cover spacers. They allow a lot of clearance for the Jesel shaft rockers...

You know how much I hate "shelf" cams but I've been getting a lot of Emails for them soooooo..... It looks like I may have to design up a few "close" ones for those who are a bit impatient for a true custom...

Let ya know...

Spanky: CNC 205 with production valve job. More with a bit of tweaking and refining....

Check out the Feb 2004 issue of Hot Rod magazine. They have a full write up on these heads. They too post some flow #'s:

AFR 205 (4.125" bore fixture and a 1.875" flow tube)
Lift - Intake/Exhaust
.20 - 144/116
.30 - 208/170
.40 - 255/206
.50 - 287/221
.55 - 296/227
.60 - 302/232
.65 - 304/236

They also list flow #'s for a Stock LS1, Stock LS6, and GMPP LS6.
They of course emphasize the fact that this head's advantage comes from the increased velocity with less port volume while maintaining a high flow rate.

It all sounds like a recipe for more power to me, but I'm waiting to see the dyno/track results. Personally..... I can't wait to see the results, especially since I'll be buying heads for my car about the time we'll see some actual dyn0/track #'s for these (I hope).

So does anyone know of someone with these heads on their car yet?
