Does this look normal?
I pulled my intake off because I had a p0332 knock sensor code, but once I got the intake off I saw how black it was. This is my first time pulling an intake off and I really don't know what the norm is. Also the knock sensors look fine to me so does the wiring, so what else could be the problem? Is my timing too advanced? I got my car tuned a few months ago but no problems until now..
EDIT: Only mods are Lid, P&P TB and MAF, longtubes, ORY, LM1, Tune. 57,700 miles on the car.

Im cleaning it right now and that oil is really THICK in there. Definitely need a catch can. There were even leaves and pieces of stuff under the intake manifold! Wierd thing is that there isnt that much oil in the intake manifold that I can see. It seems to be accumulating in the intake runners?

I had to pull a head on the pass side just 2 weekends ago, long story short broke a brass adapter off in the head for a aftermarket temp sender, anyway... after pulling the intake off, I had the same thing, buildup like that is normal, just clean it out, get some upper chamber cleaner (I like the mopar stuff you get from the Dodge dealer) and spray some in there before you put the intake back on. You can also clean the intake out real good with that same cleaner, just make sure its all dry and cleaned out after before you put the intake back on. I also have a catch can now, so that helps, but when I bought the car, it had 99K on it and noone ever did a upper chamber cleaning on it, so its still gunked up from that some. Now that I have one side clean, and the other head is still on with stock gasket and bolts, I figure its time to pull that one and clean it and put a new head gasket on so both sides are somewhat even. Here are some pics I took when I was doing the head pull:
And this is what caused all that work:

I cleaned it all up the best I could and put the new knock sensors in, put it all back together and it runs great! No more codes and it seems like its faster maybe due to the bad sensor pulling timing. Another thing, Im pretty sure I got a new job that pays decent money so maybe Ill be getting a cam and heads sooner than I thought
tdevil55, that looks like a bitch to replace that sensor haha

Its was not needed, but now I know I can do a head cam swap myself. Really had to pull the head only because the thread part fell off into the water jacket in the head, so it had to come out. Only took me 4 days total from tear down to back and fluid change, but the longest wait was finding a head gasket, no part store had one in stock, had to wait til that monday to pick one up from the GM dealer. If had all parts and ready to go, I could prob pull a head and replace in a day now, but I would still take my time just so I wouldnt miss anything.
Glad you got it back up and running, now save some money and get a catch can for that bad boy.
