this thread is scarey interesting to me. let me explian. first i'm having a similar problem w/ my car. it's got TR stage II'2 w/ dual coil springs. it HAD the tr224/ 114 in it. the best numbers i made with it were 390 rwhp and 368 rwtq, and it peaked at 6100 rpm. after going back and forth w/ the folks at thunder racing, we decided to try a differant cam, thinking the the old 224 had to much advance ground in when it was made. so we tried that TR227/224 114- i think they call it the reverse split cam. anyway, after some slight a/f tuning and pulling a couple of degrees timing out of it it made 405rwhp and 374 rwtq. it peaked again- at 6100 rpm and started to roll over after that. basically the car is making the rwhp it's supposed to, but the torque #'s are slightly low and it doesn't pull up to 6500rpm like it's supposed to. this is what is bothering the guys at thunder. so now they are thinking my pushrods they sold me are to long and are might be holding the valves open at high rpm, keeping it from pulling any harder. so they want me to check the lifter preload. fortunately i'm a mechanic at a pontiac dealer so all the installs and checks can be made at work. i do however understand any frustartion from the guys at thunder, 'cuz they don't have the car there to look at, we are doing this all by the phone. the car is an '02 ws6 that has kooks LT's, corsa cat-back, lid, filter, 4:10 gears with an m6 trans.

This is what is involved in degreeing a camshaft, it is a percise setting, you match it to the cam card look at these;
www.geocities.com/cambusters_detroit/camdegree.htm
www.hotrodder.com/kwkride/degree.html
Then for lingo & general info look at this;

Can someone also tell me why that HP and TQ don't cross at 5200 rpms?
looks like they cross at 5250 to me :umm:

and something is way off, that is not sposed to peak at 5600 and then fall off.

So what would you think JRP?? We are going to swap cams in the next few weeks to a FMS cam. We are wondering if it wasn't degreed properly.

as the other guy found out its probably not degreed right. the 224 should peak at 6100-6300 and maintain power to 6600 or so.

are you swapping cams cuz this one has low numbers?

That is the main reason. He also wanted to go to a larger cam. We'll find out when we do the swap. I bet it is degreed properly actually. I dunno.

if it was degreed properly then something else is way wrong. the curves like like a stock cam but with higher numbers.

Lets say it is degreed properly, what else could we look for. And I will say its not tuning.
