are rods backwards?
are rods backwards? while reinstalling my the rod and piston combos I noticed that the pistons marked 7 and 8 have rods that seem backwards to the other cylinders.
The rods are suppose to have the angled edge away from the other rod on the same journal and the smooth straight edge against one another. Well they are opposite of that.
So my question is, are the numbers stamped on the bottom of the pistons require them to be in the labeled cylinders or can I swap the two pistons and correct the backward rod problem?

The flat edge of the rod should face the other rod, and the tapered edge should be against the crank, even though the stock crank is not radiused. Also the "tang" inside the big end of the rod (the small notch that aligns with the notch in the bearing) should face the oil pan rail.
You can swap the rods to the correst position, but make sure the piston is facing the correct way. The dot should be facing the front of the motor.
It's possible that someone has been inside the engine before you and mixed it up.

No warranty, Third party buy from a guy who had it assembled and didnt want to do the rest.
I guess I should have mention these are Scat rods on SRS forged pistons.
But I managed to flip the rods around on the pistons, Those spring retainers on the floating wrist pins are not easy to get out of the piston.
