I remember Larry @ ASSC was telling me about using some on his daily driven D-1 formula and it made his boost go from 11psi to 15psi and he detonated the motor. Luckily it didn't crack a ringland.

I've personally also used some on my friend's mustang and it helped his belt problems at the track.

3/3/03:

Rods are here, pistons should be here any day now.

Dropped off my new LS6 crate motor at Speed Inc. so they can get it honed .005 for me.

I will be dropping off a low mile stock crank there in the next week or so and then I will have them balance the new rotating assembly.

FMS is pulling together my order for a big HP blower cam, springs, retainers, ARP main studs and double timing chain, along with other odds and ends.

The 6.0 FI heads will be on their way this week and the 6.0 GM head gaskets are already here.

I plan to buy one of those SDPC engine stands and then the motor should be done by the end of the month or even sooner.

I still need an oil pump and headers to complete the longblock.

Sorry I have not posted all the prices and part numbers, I will once I have complete and accurate lists from the companies from whom I am buying the parts.

This engine should make very good power. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> But reliability may be a question. What level of boost is the limit for the stock sleeves? Or has anyone hit that level of boost yet? This will be an interesting peice, good luck. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Well the record for SC'd power using aluminum block with a stock sleeves is ______, I have no idea. I'm sure there are some examples in the 6__ range.

Jimmy, I have no experience with the softener but Bob does not use it and he is one of my advisors on the project, but I'm sure it works for folks. Larry's 3rd gen is fast but it's dual power adder and I am reluctant to use those R-trim/ spray setups as a reference.

I am gonna have it pulleyed for 20 lbs of boost but it will be a while before it would see that.

I am looking now at how high we can spin the hydraulic setup. I plan to run very little preload, like .010, but I wonder what will happen if we try to shift the car at 7200... Just random thoughts right now, I plan to have the longblock assembled by the end of the month, and I will have exhaust and the trans in to if I can find a T400 in time. I might dyno the car NA too.

I think you should go solid with STRONG springs if you are planning big revs <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Good luck,

Just curious...why GM vs Cometic head gaskets...all LPE turbo cars use cometics...

Good luck with the buildup John.
I take it Mr. Bob Kurgan (Mr. Renegade) is the gentleman you're referring to as far as advising you about your setup?
I thought they were able to use a t-brake in Renegade competition?

I'm also curious as to why GM gaskets instead of Cometic?

Yeah I need to add a TB to the list. How much are your Bauer TB's, that is what I am using. I want one powdercoated in red.
--
Harlan is using the GM gaskets and based on his numbers he is making 700rwhp on a Eddy current dyno so he's more like 740rwhp on a Dynojet.
--
Renegade folks do use a T-brake I was in error when I posted that. But I will not use one since I am not looking to keep a T400 in the car long term.
--
My FLP tranny worked great and I was tempted to try to use it but if I smoked it I would have smoked a $2000 transmission just to satisfy my curiousity. Better to sell it for $1500 and get a $750 T400 (no brake). I am going to use a TCS 245mm converter, I hope to get one to stall around 5200-5500 or so, and I plan to shift the car around 7000-7200 rpms. I should make 20 lbs of boost doing that. I am gearing down in back from a 4.11 to a 3.50 gear as well.

I don't see injectors? or is that in the list with the fuel system down the road?

Also why are you going to use used lifters?

83 lb Delphi injectors (low impedance)
Barely used lifters, <1000 miles

I'm not necessarily believing that the aftermarket lifters are much better than stock. And I used to have a set of Comp R lifters.

Wouldnt you want to use some good aftermarket lifters for an FI/high rpm motor? Something like Comp R's or the Schoelfields (sp?).

Also, don't you have to clearance rockers to use the cranes?? Why not just use Isky's, REV's, or Comp's doubles. They have been proven.

I have run stock rockers up to 7400 with no ill effects.

I think most of the aftermarket lifters are just modified stockers. I have never seen a stock lifter fail in the last four years.

I'm not running more than 600 lift and I am only going to run about .010 lifter preload.
