Default Help me decide on exhaust lobe cam

I have been working on purchasing a Cam for my 98 firebird and I was going to buy the 230/230 Xfi/Xer 111 +2 that Chrs1313 runs/ran in his car. I called comp cams today to get help on selecting springs (still lost on what to buy), and the guy suggested I change it to a 230/236... He said it would help give the stock heads more time to get rid of gasses. Please don't go crazy on me if I am stating something wrong, I am very green to cam changes.

This is for a street/strip car. It needs to have some street manners but damnit I am not losing to a turbo 2.0L with nitrous again. The cam will be getting help in the form of 90MM fast intake, 90mm throttle body, long tube headers, and new exhaust back. My car has 3.73 gears and a small stall torque converter, but will still have stock LS1 heads.

What would you guys suggest, stay with the proven 230/230 or go with the suggested 230/236?

Also any info on a good set of budget springs that can handle .612" lift would be helpful as well.

I'm running the 230/230 "el toro" cam I think you are talking about. Great street cam with lots of mid range torque where you really need it the most. It took my tuner a little bit of time to really dial in the street tune on this cam to really get it to have good drivability. As much as I like it, he is really trying to sell me on this spec'd cam he is running in alot of his cars, and to be honest the numbers speak for themselves. It has great drivability to, easy to tune, and will pull hard especially with your set-up. See the link below and search around, "Damian" has posted several threads on some results from this mild cam.....

Whats a bummer is I am running 243 heads with the 230/230 cam and put down 410 hp/387 tq, same mods as in the thread and he putdown 424/396 with 241 heads.

That looks like a great alternative, not over .600 lift so you can run single springs and more power/driveability. I think that is more the cam I am looking for. Thanks for the info!
