Default balancer issue, please help.

Hi guys.
I have an Lq4 converting everything to car setup.
I have install l92 heads, ls3 intake, ls1 waterpump, and ls1 balancer.
when I install the belt, I notice the balancer stick out 2 ribs outward more then the rest of the pulley system.
I press the pulley in, already touching.
the only thing I can think of is the compscams double roller timing chain causing the balancer to stick out.
Have anyone have any problem?
what do you guys recomend to do?

thank you.

Eric

Well with the double roller you should've got a spacer for the oil pump, in which that's not gonna affect the balancer. Are you sure it's an LS1 balancer and not the truck one? The truck water pump sticks out farther than the LS1 one, so maybe you have the truck balancer on there.

What exactly is touching? I have a double roller setup, there should be no difference in where the balancer ends up if installed properly. The truck balancer sticks out 3/4" farther than an F-body balancer and 1 1/2" farther than a Y-body. That said, your "2 ribs" worth is way less than either of these numbers, so be looking for an installation problem.

Sounds like the balancer is either incorrect or not seated properly.

The balancer that I have is an Ls1 balancer, the waterpump that I have is an LS1 as well.
How I installed the balancer I use a balancer installer (5-7" bolt, bearing, nut and spacer).
I install the balancer untill it bottom out. it stick out a little far out.
Only Thing I can think of is the double roller crank sleeve for the oil pump maybe longer, causing the balancer not going in all the way.

another question, Is there certain mark I suppose to line up with when installing the balancer? is there a somekind of tdc mark?

thanks

Why dont you post a pic of a balancer or do you know the car it came from? And no, there is no TDC mark. Pulley can go on however.

You can't just say "LS1", there are (at least) three different hub lengths. You need to determine what vehicle yours came from.

Plus, every jerkoff I have seen selling a 5.3 calls it an LS motor. **** is annoying. Guess I thought perhaps you bought it from someone claiming it was from an "LS1"

What are they then? GM V-8's to most the world you have SBC's, BBC's, & LSX's.

I'd remove the balancer and measure it

I bought this from summitracing.
dorman is the manufacture. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RN...s/?prefilter=1

I will post the picture on once I get the alternator and all the accessory on.
thank you for all your help.
I remenber seen someone end up machine the harmonic balancer, due to double chain issue.

If you still have the stock unit measure it and compare to the new one. That will give you an idea whether the balancer is the issue. Not sure which timing set you have but contact the manufacturer and get some dimensions from them so you don't have to go deeper into the motor. Once you have all that information you should be able to determine what the issue is.

FYI, Camaro/Firebird balancer. I have a Rollmaster double roller chain setup and didn't need to do anything strange to get the pulleys to align properly. You might measure the depth of your factory crank sprocket and compare it with the Comp gear just to see if they're the same. That's the only part that could affect the alignment...

The LSx, LQx, LMx, etc.. are Gen III and IV engines.. SBC = Gen I, LT1 are Gen II's.. to be correct... and yes.. everyone on ebay, scam'er and those un-educated calls any of the Gen III and IV an LS1 to make a easy sale..!

There are two generations of BBC, there is the W engines (Gen I) are Mark IV (Gen 2) and the Vortec 8100 (Gen VII) which is a re-designed BBC.

But there is a lot more to making sure you say what you really have and not use some generic term ! Give me the correct RPO code to not screw you up.

BTW.. there are at lease two different (RPO) LS1/6 Balancers.. a Y-Body (Vette) and a F-Body (Camaro/Firebird) both are different (dont forget the GTO's too). That is the 3/4" differents
