Exclamation help, im freaking out

i am doing a camswap on my car and just got the cam plate removed. started sliding the dowel rods into my engine and they wont go in more than half an inch. i turned the cam bot ways 10 or 12 times and they still wont go in. i have tried everything to get them to go. the rods are 5/16 and a little longer than my cam. they go in at the right angle just not in the hole far enough to even get the first lifter. are the rods too fat to go in???? anyone who has had this problem before?? please help!!! what should i do???

First calm down drink a beer. Now go try again, sounds like you might be hitting the lifter. When you spin the cam, listen to see if it is contacting the lifter.

Did you unbolt the rocker arms and pull out the push rods?

Check this. Sounds like you're hitting the lifters. Any weight on the lifters can keep them from sticking up in the trays.

fwiw 5/16 should fit. if it was truly 5/16. Steel 5/16 brake line works the best. Dont leave any splinters in your motor!

nothing came off the dowels, i made sure there weren't any places it could hang up on before i slid them in. i dont know what the deal was with the round bar. it was slightly larger than the 5/16" wooden ones i got from walmart but idk. i ended up using the 1/4" and they worked great.

Well Happy Birthday. There are certian things that if your old enough to do, you should be aloud to drink a beer and changing a cam is one of them. Well congrats on the cam change and again Happy Birthday!
