Default LS1 to LS6 Crate Engine Questions

My stock LS1 took a dump on me the other day and I've decided I'm going to replace it with a LS6 crate engine. What do I need to make this happen? I am told I'll need to do something about the wiring for the crank trigger (does anyone carry a wiring kit for this?) and perhaps the LS6 has a different reluctor wheel? I'm also going to use it as a time to replace the water pump. But is there anything else that can be replaced or will be needed to install this motor?

I could be wrong, but I think you are talking about the difference when going from LS1 to LS2.

LS6 should only require a little tuning.

According to the place I'm buying the LS6 from the ONLY things that will need to be replaced on the LS6 to fit into an LS1-equipped vehicle are 1) Oil pan 2) Pickup and 3) Balancer....

Can anyone confirm?

Oops, I forgot about those.

The oil pan and balancer make sense, since the LS6 was made for the Vette.

Well, for $3500 I think the price is right. The addition of the three additional parts that need to be changed (which the company has to include) will bring the total package to $4k SHIPPED.... Any thoughts>?

Yes, thats about the price of a stock crate engine. And yes, you will need to hold onto your oil pan/pick-up and balancer obviously as they are car specific.

Sounds good. what's wrong with your LS1? Is it rebuildable/sellable?

Not sure about the balancer but the LS6 will have the Vette oil pan.

It's definitely rebuildable... I had a massive chunk knocked out of the block just above where it mates with the oil pan, right in front of the oil filter, but not sure what caused it since it just happened this past Saturday. I'm thinking either a rod or a cap gave and blasted it through to the bottom...

Once I pull the motor I'll tinker around and pull it apart.

Your oil pan and pickup tube were damaged? If not you could just reuse them.

Is there anything I should do at this time while doing the transplant, anything that should be upgraded?

You get the best of everything with a crate motor all the flaws and updates are already on it

Would it be smart to upgrade the fuel injectors?

Default LS1to LS6

I replaced my LS1 with a LS6 as well, it seems you are getting a long block for the $3500.

as stated above balancer and oil pan, windage tray, and pick up tube will not work in a F-body.

When the bottom becomes exposed upgrade/install ARP rod bolts, cheap insurance.

It will come with the correct:
water pump
crank sensor
cam sensor
pliot bearing
- should be able reuse everything else, including your fuel injectors.

You will need to get the LS6 PCV hose/s(I believe its only 2 hose's ) since the LS6 version will be newer and the F-body wont work, Its a much cleaner PCV system.

the left rear valve cover will have a black plug on it, DO NOT REMOVE IT.
the LS6 valley cover plate contains the system for PCV for the left valve cover that is now plugged off.
The right valve cover 1 small curved hose that runs to the TB same as the F-body, although the F-body uses 2 hose/s for the right side valve cover.

I have link below to help illustrate the diffenences.

LS1 to LS6
here is link, to show you some steps, you will not need all of this just some.
since the LS6 will already come configured correctly.

Thats all I can think of at this time

If that isn't within your budget, why not go with a LlsS2? Those few extra cubes are nice, and should be relatively close in price to a LS6

Eh, I like the brand new, zero mile thought I guess. Plus, it's still going to be a daily driver for awhile and it still should spank several cars on the road if need be.
