Default Head milling question

I'm sure this has probly been beat to death. Did a search and didn't find any thing to really answer
my question. So sorry in advance,
so my question is this, my short block is a stock and original. I am going to be using a set of very low mile 241 casting heads with a TSP 228r cam. Is milling these heads going to offer me a gain in hp or tourqe or even throttle response ?
Or would it be a waste of money? Was planning to have them milled down to 59cc and use a mls headgasket. Main concern is if I'll gain any thing even throttle response would be worth it. And do you guys think a bowl blend would be worth the $200? Was going to buy ls6 heads but decided I don't feel like spending $1500 for a set of heads
thanks Joe

minimal at best. all you are going to do is raise your compression ratio. with a better flowing set of heads, you might see more.

To me 5rwhp is worth it. Milling is cheap. I'm not trying to build a monster cars just something to beat when I'm felling bored. You think the bowl blend would be worth doing?

Compression builds torque and improves throttle response. I had my 243s milled .035".

Milling is always worth it and your better off using a thinner gasket and milling less off the head. You can usually pick up some 243s or 799s used for a reasonable price and those with some milling and valve job are excellent on a street car.

You can mill the head .030 and get a thinner head gasket. I belive the stock is.054 or .052. WS6store has several normally in stock I went .040 gaskets and milled the head .030

Most of your improvement will be off-idle and lower rpm, but it should improve MPG when cruising. There's really nothing to do in the intake bowls. Since it is a single-pattern cam, I would taper the exhaust guide bosses, then polish the exhaust ports. That should add at least 10-15 horses by 5000 rpm or so.

I would definately mill the heads. I would take compression over flow any day of the week! Make sure you check your piston to valve clearance before you fire it over though.

Thanks for all the replys. Deff gonna skip the bowl blend then. Sounds like the increase in compression is gonna do what I want. As for checking PTV clearance. What should I do as far as that goes? Use some clay on the piston the use my old head gasket and head bolts? Then tourqe around one cyl spin and check? Thanks for the input

Remember, what these trigger happy idiots don't tell you is you may be running on the ragged edge of safety and longevity of your motor bc they don't have to pay the repair bill. I say measure your PTV first, BEFORE you mill. Then see just how close you are comfortable letting the valve get to the piston. While massive milling may be great and wonderful on a track only motor. On a street driven vehicle, playing it safe is A-OK. I mean the bottom line is you want your engine to live a long healthy life if possible.

Lol that is true. I do want to check ptv but need to figure out the right way to do it. My motor may not last due to the nitrous hits lol. I'm not worried too much about long term. I plan on using this motor fo 1-2 more years that's why I'm being a cheap ***
