Can someone please explain the custom grind cam process? Do I have to take out my stock cam, and try and match?

There are two basic approaches to the Custom Grind Cam Process:

1.) Work with somebody technical, come up with specs, give them to a manufacturer like Comp, and receive a cam ground to those specs and surface-hardened.

2.) Have a shop re-grind your old cam, without surface hardening, and then watch it disintegrate into your oil pan while taking your lifters with it.

Choose wisely.

IMHO it depends on what it is going in....but for most mild street builds I agree just call a vendor...
