LQ4 317 HEAD CASTING or L92 HEADS? i just bought my first Lq4 engine lastnight and notice that the head are aluminum and has a casting of 317. i did a search and it seem like everybody like the 317 heads i was plannin to junk it and go for an L92 heads.
how good are my 317 heads compare to any L92 heads? are L92 worth the upgrade?

There's plenty of debate, but your answer will depend on your plans for the engine. For example, if you're gonna add turbocharging, or run it in a pickup with a stock converter and a "baby cam", then the L92 heads might not be so great. But if you want a high-rpm stroker for racing, with a 4000 stall, then sell the 317s.
I think the LQ4 really needs some smaller chambered heads to make some good power. The 317 and L92 heads both have large combustion chambers so your compression stays pretty low. With some smaller chambered heads you will pick up compression which picks up low end power and torque.

im looking to keep it N/A most of the time and spray 150shot at the track (but i rarely attend the track). im also planning on switchin it to an L76 intake manifold and throw in a custom thunder racing cam 224/228 .637/.639 110LSA (+0). i copy this from another member on here and it pick up some very good number with very great torque.. probably do some valve job and a 3000 stall and that's it. leave it as is.
i just bought the motor lastnight and i turn the crank a bit and realize it's really hard and doesnt budge. i feel like i just got fucked over. i might have to buy a new piston and piston ring so maybe i might upgrade it i gotta see the damage first.

I personally like the L92 heads. For the price and extra flow you get over any other stock cathedral port head its a no brainer to me. If you are going N/A though i would for sure try to bump up your compression. You might could get some LS2 or LQ9 pistons off of here for cheap that somebody has from going to a 408. If it were me though and had to get different pistons i would just go forged but they may not be in your budget. I hope the engine is ok though

still need a helping hand getting the motor on the engine stand. i didnt buy a motor jack yet. im leaving that for last. the screw that goes on the motor is fairly skinny. i hope a grade 8 or 12 bolt could hold the motor on the engine stand. the cylinder wall are nice and smooth it just something causing it stuck in there. so the damage should be very little. what kind of piston would u recommend? i will need something to hold at least 600RWHP.
