Default lq4 370 build questions.

alright guys, well i need a little insight on my upcoming build.

I've got an unknown mileage iron lq4 long block with the aluminum 317 heads.
I'll be running the stock crank. i'm wanting to build it into a 370" motor, so that would be .30" over bore, correct? in that case i'll be running a 4.030" bore piston. my question really is, i'm wanting to run the stock rods, is that possible? and i want it to be a flat top piston to bump up the compression of the lq4 a little with the 317 heads. i'll be upgrading to mostly arp hardware on the motor, and it will be strictly an NA motor, not boost or nitrous. what piston options do i have available if any?

I believe we and get a Mahle piston for you that will work with the factory rod. If it were me, I would save the money for a cheap forged rod in a 6.125" length. It will open up your options for a better piston setup and at least you won't have to worry if you decide to step up with a power adder down the road. By the time you buy rod bolts, you will only be looking at a couple hundred bucks more to go with a forged rod that will come with them...

well i'm really making this a budget build and like stated, stictly NA, no power adders will be added in the future. with that in mind, what piston options do i have for working with the stock rod, being flat top, and 4.030" bore?

Probe makes a pretty decent forged piston. I think they're under 400g as well (without the pin), so you'd likely be taking weight out when you balance the crank rather than adding a slug of heavy metal. I think they're roughly $400 w/o rings.

I'm finishing up a 347ci LS6 for a friend with a Lunati/Wiseco piston. It was meant for a .927" pin, but was honed out for a .945" pin. Weighed in at 404g. With the stock rod, only about 20g had to be taken out of the front and rear counterweights to balance it. I don't know if this piston is still available, it's kind of a custom piston.
