Default Got an oil pan problem, need some ideas for a fix!

Long story short my dipstick tube broke off below the rib on the tube and is stuck in my oil pan. If it had broken off above the rib I might be able to chisel it out, but its flush with the oil pan. A couple things Ive heard so far are to use an easy out tool bit or knock it in the pan and fish it out with a magnet which I think will be rather hard. I was thinking myself if I just had a screwdriver type tool that had a tip that was at a 90 degree angle and I could "pull" the piece of dipstick out. I already have a new dipstick I just need to get this damn piece out. There has to be a way to get it out without taking off the oil pan and wasting half my day. I know you guys can be real creative so throw me some ideas.

screw a screw into the broken tube and then grab it with vise grips and pull it out ..just dont go nuts with the screw that you put into the tube if you go to big it will spread the tube and make it tighter you want to put a long screw for more contact you can pull and pry harder on it ...I have done this in the past and it worked fine

You think that will work better than an easy out bit?

The easy out wants to spread it open to dig in and grip it ..the screw will thread into it ..try a big sheet metal screw even if it only goes a turn or two into it that should be good enough to pull it out clamp vise grips onit and pry under it with screw driver/pry bar

Could I drain the oil and fish it out with a magnet if I punch it into the pan?

Ill try finding a screw with my new tube first.

No. More than likely it'll get stuck in one of the baffles and then you're screwed. Pan would have to come off.

I'd exhaust every option possible to extract it somehow.

What's inner diameter of the tube that's stuck inside? Get a tap send it down a few turns then use a pair of vise grips to pull the tap and tube out. Do they make a slide hammer with an expanding tip that small?

There is noway you are going to buy a internal pipe wrench small enough to fit in the dip stick tube so just forget that. If you are good with tools you could get the proper size tap and make threads inside the tube then use a small slide hammer setup to get it out. Otherwise you're gonna be pulling things apart to get it out from inside.
