Default Heads 806-241-243

So im sure this thread exists somewhere, but anyways, what is the difference between the 806?? I think they are on my 99 as compared to the 241's on the 01-02 F-Bodies, and the 243 heads that i really dont know what they go on, im considering swapping my heads off as i know someone with a set of 241's and also someone with a set of 243's or are my heads something that would flow decent and be good to beef up and port out.

243's are an LS6 head. Here's how it goes 806<241<243. 243's will give you the better flow and gains.

243's came on LS6 motors and LS2 motors. 799’s came on LS2 motors. The only difference between 243’s and 799’s is that the 243 that came off LS6 motors had hollowed stem valves. Brand new LS2 heads with solid stem valves run $320 from Scoggin Dickey are great heads for a factory cast head.
If you’re going to be re-working the heads you can go with 241’s, 243’s or 799’s. All will perform about the same.

FWIW, the 806, 853 and 241 all perform pretty much identically. However, 806 only comes in perimeter bolt style, and some early 853's do as well. You can not use MLS gaskets with a perimeter bolt style head, they will leak coolant. I bought a set of worked over 806's for my 98 so that the heads would look stock from the outside. Best bang for you buck is to get a used set of 243's or 799 heads, they will pick up 20 or more hp over an LS1 head.

Can you get head gaskets, valve covers, coil pack brackets, and a pcv system for free as well? Because all those little things add up to "you might as well buy a set of 243's". Unless your budget is really tight I would suggest doing some sort of upgrade if you have the heads off. I just got a hoss set of ported 806's for mine for a good price because I want to keep the stock look.
