Default Which cam for my LQ9 6.0 HO

I'm thinking of going with a bigger cam in my car and wanted opinions.. I'm probably going to go with a custom grind of my own, but wanted your thoughts.. I currently have a TSP 228R in the carand have been very happy with it. I just added 70cc LS6 heads that've been milled .010" as well as 1 7/8" Thunder Racing headers.. This is a 4.00" bore with stock flat top pistons.. I plan to run a small shot of nitrous 50-100 for fun as well..

Current mods are in signature below.

Thanks for the input..

I really don't think I'd pick up a whole lot with that cam from where I am now.. Maybe peak higher..

If you dont think you will pick up much with that cam, then how big are you looking to go?

Thats one of the bigger and badder cams out there.

Well given I have a few more cubes than an LS1, (364) I was thinking I could go with more than what is considered big and bad for an LS1. I'll know more my car is dynoed with the heads for the 1st time.. The 228R cam only got my heavy *** 300+ lb and iron block 3800lb race weight down the track @ 7.49 @ 92.. only dynoed 364/385 unlocked.. Soo I'm not really into peak numbers.. Dynoed 385/389 with 3.73s and ZR1s and vig3200.. I'm thinking with the heads I'll hit a minimum of 400/400 locked. I spoke to lou about a G5X3.. Just getting input at this point.. I should be able to run a 7.2 NA with what I have now. That's my goal anyway.

MMT MJ2: MJ2: 232/244 .607/.608 112lsa

You can get a custom grind cam with any duration and lift you want so I am really not sure what info you are looking for. There arent that many 364CI people.

I would go as big as I can and not have any clearance issues.

Interesting thread for me - I'm building almost the exact same motor!

I had a custom ground cam done - probably small by your standards! It is a 228/232, 588/588, 110 LSA.

I am going with LS6 heads from my current motor.

I am adding the weight of the iron block and a 6pt rollbar, so I am looking to put it on a diet elsewhere.

I'm hoping for mid 11's out of mine NA.

Sweet.. Sounds like a good cam and another fun project.. You should hit your goal easily.. I ran a 7.49 1/8 with my fat *** and the iron block the car 3800+.. Lighter and better driver and the car went 7.37.. lol I'm not about huge cams as much as the right combo. I'll run this cam to it's potential then move on.. Good luck to you..

Kumar, I already have a custom grind in mind I just wanted to hear what everyone thought they would go with in a similar situation.. I think there are more 6.0L out there than you think.. Thanks for your input..

Thanks! And best of luck to you too! I hear you about the right combo - that is the way to reap the most benefits! The guy that ground my cam is really good at getting it right for the setup - his lobe profiles are his secret weapon!

I am excited to see what mine is gonna do. I'm gonna put it on a slight diet to try and offset some of the weight I'm adding. Mine is a full weight street car as well at the moment. I'm gonna do Welds & remove the carpet padding, front bumper support,spare/jack, and the front swaybar - that should help a little!

Then in another year or so, I'll put in a TH400 & a 150 shot and try for mid 10's!

Keep us up to date with how yours turns out!
