Default Mahle Piston?

I am going to be buying new pistons when i rebuild my motor and was wondering what everybodies opinions are of Mahle Pistons? The reason for the purchase is that i need a piston with valve reliefs because of the cam thats going in.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Josh

I would recommend them in a Non-Power adder application. If you plan on doing forced induction, I would go Wiseco or Diamond.

If you are going to spray....go with a Diamond, that's just my opinion.

We have used plenty of Mahle pistons on quite a few builds that we have done. They are a nice piston, but not something I would use on a big forced induction product. I will say that we have sprayed a 150-200 shot on them, but I personally would not go more than that. They are a good piston for the price especially since they do come with the rings. Anything 200+ I would highly recommend going with the Diamond Pistons.

well, it looks like i should look into something other than the mahle piston due to the possibility of future mods!

thanks for all of your opinions.

I have built many of high compression SBC/BBC engines with Mahle pistons. No failures or problems. I have used Wiseco and JE/SRP pistons with the same results. All of them are of great quality. When it comes to forced induction and heavy nitrous loads, I would go with a piston DESIGNED for that particular application. Mahle, Wiseco, JE/SRP, Diamond and others ALL offer a forced induction piston, or they can custom make you one. Always pick engine components that correspond with your goals and set-up, period, whether it be Mahle or Wiseco or any of the others.

Good luck!

I have and are still using a USED set of Mahle forged flat tops in my motor thats had 2 different setups. They saw nitrous for a year and a half and are currently in my motor with my turbo setup. Making ~800 rwhp and are doing fine. I'd buy another set or hell even re use them

I find pistons is one of the few things people have favoured brands, but, they're never the same brand, and they all check out good. It seems to be hard to find a bad piston company as long as the piston is being used for its intended application.
