Do not buy dart heads. get trick flow or afr heads. I had afr 205 heads on a stock ci ls1 and with the boltons a non ported fast, stock waterpump,12 bolt rear w/4.11's i made 463hp@6,600 414tq @5,600 on a stang dyno and ran 11.1 n/a at 123-124mph. The car could of made 475hp with a ported fast and a e.w.p. I ran a lg motorsport g6x3 cam with it.

Ya I would love to have afr's just don't think my budget is gonna allow it.. After taking my 853 heads off I noticed that every piston has severe damage where the valves hit.. My guess would be the previous owner didn't measure correctly when camming it.. And didn't have enough ptv clearance.. So some new pistons are in order now Are the trickflow 220 good heads? Too much for a stock bottom end 346?

What kind of power are you making with your TFS 220... Ya i have seen firsthand the power you can make wit TSP packages or just heads alone.. Just kinda wanna do something different around where im from, if that makes any sense...

how much power do you lose exactly through a stall? how much would you say a m would make with your exact setup through a 10 bolt?

Well generally speaking the higher the STR the less efficient up top. My STR is 2.5 which means it hits HARD off the line and costs me a little up top. I would guess I would see 510ish on a M6 and better exhaust (ditch cats w/bigger headers + duals or cutout) I would pickup another 20 or more....

If money is an issue, like it is for so many, than TSP is probably your best bet. They are a one stop shop, and a great group of guys to work with. Just food for thought build your combo with room to grow, speed and power is addicting..good luck

Ok, I looked at patriot as well.. A guy was selling a set of stage 2 5.3 heads but I didn't know enough at the time to buy then and feel comfortable doing so..

Yes I have been told about the "addicting" part.. It has become a bad habit but atleast my money goes to something I love doing... Thanks, I'll need all the luck I can get

this has to be one of the most mis leading statements in this thread. Darts are a great head, but they do need porting to perform. Send a set of darts to any reputable head porter, and you will have a head that is plenty capable of doing more then what 90% of people on this forum need. That said, im not degrading AFR or TFS by any means. All are great heads in the right hands.

I put some patriot gold springs on them before they were installed. The springs werent mandatory as the heads come with .600" capable springs and my cam is .598" but the xer cams are known for violent ramp rates so i opted for the little extra now to ensure the valves dont play tag with the pistons.

When it comes to budget fast aint cheap and cheap aint fast. What you have to do is see what kind of money you have to work with and and buy accordingly. What I would do is buy used from a reputable seller.
The Darts are great once ported(more money after the buy).
AFRs and Trickflows are great out of the box(more money than Darts).

Checkout the PRC 215 heads, I think they will work great for your application. You can have smaller chamber options with better p/v & the PRC heads ship with the top of the line EHT spring standard!

Okay after alot of reading, i think i am going ot go with the TFS 220.. for the money there fairly decent in price and perform well and have good mid-airflow... Found out while reading that i will need to, let me rephrase that, recommended to run an after market roller rocker arm... I guess it has something to do with the stock rocker arm angle isnt slightly different then stock and will cause massive valve guide wear...

I read that the "early" tfs heads used 7.7'' long pushods and were prqcically incompatible with stock rockers..

The "late" geometry which used 7.5'' long pushrods which is basically stock gm geometry rolled 1.5 degrees...

now my question is... i will be running the tfs 220 heads... and more and likely buy some roller rockers as well.. how do i determine which pushrods i need and what roller rockers (i.e. 1.7, 1.8)

If you buy your heads from Total Engine Airflow, they can install some non-bronze valve guides (at extra cost) that will obviate the need for roller rockers. This would be significantly cheaper than buying rolller rockers, which also require heavy valve springs.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/14109610-post32.html

You will need to measure the setup to determine the proper length pushrod.
