Default Which Melling Oil Pump to buy???

I am looking on BYUNSPEED.COM and I see that there is 2 different pumps??

1. Melling High Pressure Pump Part #10295

or

2. Melling High Volume Pump Part #10296

I didn't realize that there is two different pumps from melling.

Buy reading the notes on the 2nd pump it sounds like it is an upgrade from the first one with higher volume. I am confused and would like to get a quick answer for this question. THanks

I'd think you'd want to move more volume than increase pressure.

The 10296 has a larger gear to deliver increased flow (volume). It comes with two springs to set pressure at either: (a) stock pressure levels; or (b) stock pressure +10 psi.

Yes, the blue spring that come with the 10296 pump is the softer spring. I just got mine yesterday for my build.

Agree on the 10296. Have been in both my LSx motors with good results...

i just put the 10295 in my car. i will have not everything back together for a while yet so i have no idea what i kind of pressure it will have. most people get the 10296. i have been told the higher volume pumps have an increased possibility of running the pan dry. this may not happen in our cars, i really don't know. i wanted to upgrade mine since it has quite a few miles on it. i have a feeling either will work for you.

Volume doesn't protect bearings, pressure does. In extended high rpm driving a high volume pump could suck the pan dry. You wouldn't like that much and neither would your bearings.

so will the 10296 actually suck to much oil and leave the pan dry?

Yes, its possible in sustained high rpm runs like at the drag strip or top speed runs.

10296 in my current car and my old car, also in all three builds I have helped with. It will even be going on the motor on the stand. Usually see ~60psi at cruising and over 80psi WOT. Never had any problems with well over 30,000 miles on my old car. Pretty good pumps.

I believe the 296 is designed to clear a double roller without the use of spacers between the block and pump. I have a 296 and it's definitely spaced out farther but I don't have a double roller.
