Shortblock assembled and all race bearings and misc parts, polydyne etc. 1150.00
Timing chain w/gears IRL: 270.00
Head studs ARP: 200.00
Gaskets Cometic: 140.00

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
I kept the stock rods but upgraded pistons, rings and used ARP for the rod bolts.
JPR did it for me.
I chose that route last summer when researching for the same reason's Plum Crazy Rob listed.
Cost - $2600
heads, cam etc. installation and tuning extra

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
Guy's, #11503 is our blower/turbo pistons. These were design to take up to 20lbs of boost and come with 4130 premium wrist pins and locks. I have these on the shelf, ready to ship. No waiting for customs. They are set up to take a 6.125" con rod and a .927" wrist pin. They even come pin fit. These also have a -8.6cc dish in them to lower your cpmpression ratio. The cost on these is $570.00 a set. BTW, they are also made out of 2618 alloy and come with the factory wrist pin offset to keep them quite on start up. We also have a direct replacemnet pistons, #11500. This comes with the stock size wrist pin, .945" and attaches to the4 stock size rod, 6.098". These are also on the shelf ready to ship. I also have rings available for these pistons and they run $199.00 for a set. These are Plasma Moly steel top rings, cast iron J-hook 2nd's and a low tension oil. If you need any of these you can call us direct and ask for me or give one of our dealers like Thunder Racing, LG Motorsports or Futral Motorsports call. They all use and stock our pistons.

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
Chris,
What pistons and rings would you say that I get for a nitrous motor. I'll be running about a 150-250 shot. And so you guys are saying I CAN use my stock rods, but just upgrade the rod bolts with ARPs. Whats up with the stock rods.

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
Well here is what I think. The stock rods are fine if you are budget minded. I have only seen them fail due to RPM, not because of the amount of power being thrown at them. If you have the engine apart, then consider replaceing the stock rod with a forged rod, if not at least put good rod bolts in the stock rods. Just remember that the stock rod is powdered metal, not the strongest rod made.
As for the rings that you should use for nitrous, 150-250 shot you can get away with using a standard Plasma Moly ring set. If you are spraying 250+ then you may want to consider using a tool steel ring or a stainless ring. These will take the heat better and will not crack or chip the coatings off of them. They are the strongest rings that you can get. Bad thing is, they cost around $25 a ring, so $200 for a set of tops.

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
I am going to do this too. If I buy a "never ran surplus 2002 ls1/ls6 block" Do I need block work (honing/etc)??
Also...I cracked the liner in my old engine and shattered the pistons. What parts shoudl I reuse on my new engine and what parts are good to sell?

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
I looking at rebuilding my short block for a turbo setup and I would like to keep it a budget. I was thinking of wiseco stock replacement piston, stock rods and crank with ARP hardware, and bearings. I am afraid that my current short block maybe unreliable with as many 150HP of nitrous pulls I've done. The most I going to go is maybe up to 700rwhp and 6500rpm. Any input?

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
Chris,
What pistons would you suggest, stock flat top ones or a domed nitrous piston.
Before I order I'll call you guys up and get everything strightned out.

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
You can get Eagle rods for $350 if you look like crazy, and you can get Cat rods for like $300. Add $100 for the ARP bolts and it's not a bad price.
I would not use stock rods for 700rwhp as mentioned above.

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
what place did you find them for $350. And may as well change your rods since your in there, RIGHT.
Looks like I'll be doing
Eagle rods
Diamond pistons/pins/rings
ARP bolts
Stock crank.
Oh I have a Question, where can I get my crank keyed and whats the price on that.

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
Thanks PSJ; at roughly 400 RWHP, I feel confident using the stock rods with my above combo.
Thanks Chris at Diamond for answering.

Re: How much did you spend on your BUILD short block?
Kwik SS - I need to know a little more about what you want to do with this engine. A dome or a flat top could work. If you go domes, you will be raising your comp ratio and that might put you out if you are going to daily drive it. Just matters what you need from your engine.
Thanks,
Chris
