which in your opinion performs and sounds better. mods with it are going to be fast90/90 ported, ud, long tubes,243 heads,plugs msd wires egr delete air delete, slp maf slp cold air, 3.90 gears

I don't know which make the most power, but the ASA sound NASTY.

you should look up the ASA cam idle clips on YouTube. The ASA DOES sound nasty. The GM HOT Cam sounds pretty good also. GM did a helluva job when it comes to cam design. They seem to be practical and easy on parts as well...plus they sound awesome, not to mention. I am not saying that the other cams mentioned in this thread do not make power or sound good, as they do, but we often tend to look over the factory performance cams for some after market products that may or may not work as well as the factory stuff. Just my 0.02 cents....

Both cams have been proven to make good power i think the 243's would favor the higher lift of the 228 but the asa's larger duration split may help it there especially on the exhaust side. The thing i like about the asa is the .525 lift means you can use ls6 springs and let them go 100k without replacing them whereas springs used with a higher lift cam will have to be replaced every 30k or atleast checked. So my vote is for the asa

You're all over those Cam Motions now aintcha?

OP, the ASA cam will definitely make more hp/tq in the low rpm's compared to the 228, but above 5K I think you'll start to see the ASA run out of breath and the 228 will keep pulling to 6500 or so.

One thing is for sure though. The sexiest sounding LS1 engine I've EVER heard has an ASA cam in it. That cam hits like no other.

I've been using Cam Motion for 10 years. Everybody else is a little late.

All the Futral FMS cams use cam motion lobes. They have been camming LS1's since they came out. If you used the Search function you would find tons of results with FMS 11, 12, 13, 14 cams out there with great results. I agree it's nice to have options. I would like to see people on tech post some results with Bullet cams.

I think it you would need to decide how important spring life and how strong a spring you want to use before you could decide which one of these cams to choose. The reason I say that is that the GMPP cams (LS6, Hot Cam, ASA) are not super aggressive with ramp or lift which makes them easier on springs than most aftermarkets like an XER lobe (like the 228R is ground on).

I tend to agree that the 228R will make more power at the top end of the rev range, and that lower potentially the ASA could make more power. However, unless you like overlap just for the sound and fun, I wouldn't choose the ASA over the 228R if you are trying to optimize low-mid power... what I mean is you could simply spec a cam on XER lobes (or even a more aggressive lobe if you want) with less duration than the ASA (or 228R) and get improved valve events and DCR.

Ultimately there are a number of factors to deciding which cam which is why I think comparing these becomes a little more complicated...

Honestly, it sounds like you want the ASA cam really for the sound rather than pwoer gains. It does sound nasty, but that is the last reason I would buy a certain cam. You can get a custom grind to make good power and lope pretty good. I'd go with the 228R if I had to pick from these. Personally, I'd go with a custom grind from EPS.

Oh, and lope really isn't hard to get. Hel, I am no where near a cam genius and I could spec you out something that would lope hard (can't garuntee it would run hard though ).

What I'm saying is buy a cam for how it makes your car perform, rather than how it idles.

Who are you getting the cam spec from? Also make sure you keep use updated.

Agreed, if I change my cam in the future thats what I'm goin with. Cost is basically a wash compared to a off the shelf cam but you get one made for your specific application.

I have been seeing enough great results from his new line that when the time comes to drop the coin, he will get my payment.
