Default FI engine question... strength of stock crank

On a boosted (let's say turbo'd) STOCK motor, what parts are likely to fail first (assume a perfect tune)?? Pistons?? Rods?? Head gaskets??

Now let's take this hypothetical motor and swap in some good rods and pistons, and add head studs along with some good head gaskets. Again, assume a perfect tune. What would be the most likely failure?? Crank?? Cylinder liner??

Does anyone know the HP limit of the stock crank??

Thanks for any input.

Blue- I think that RPM is more of a rod/rod bolt killer than HP.

Of course, I could be wrong. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

You are right rpm is what taxes rod bolts, hp doesnt.when force is applied to pistons(HP) rod bolt plays no part in strength of motor, its on exhaust stroke that piston yanks on rod and bolts when it changes directions at top dead center.

I personally don't think the crank is the limiting factor. I've only heard of one crank failure, many moons ago.

If i were to wager, i'd say it's a toss up between the rods themselves or the pistons. My biggest concern is the pressed wrist pin first. Bend one a little bit, and you'll take out the bore/piston once it binds.

I'll run the stock crank till i spit it out and drive over it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

We have tested to over 700RWHP with a stock crank, but with good rods and Ross Pistons. It was a F-car with a single turbo and it went high 9's!

Realistically though, 600rwhp should be pretty safe.
