Im looking to buy a cam pretty soon and ive narrowed it down to three.Thunder racing raptor cam, england greens mayhem 2 cam, vengeance vrx5 cam. It will be my DD but i want some really good hp and tq numbers. It wont see the track very much, its mostly for street. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Auto or manual? What rear gears? What heads? Running LTs? What rpm are you going to shift at?

Shift rpm is important with cam choice. Are you wanting a torquey set-up or a top end monster?

Cam Motion:

C33-794 LS Hydraulic Roller Camshaft; 232'/236', .629"/.629", 113'+4'; 2,400 to 6,400 RPM

Or a RapTR from Thunder.

go to the website or talk to Geoff at EPS,or Patrick-G.they do custom cams to match you head/intake flow and RPM needs.I don't totally understand cams but the EPS cams produce great results with smaller duration numbers.I plan on buying a cam from EPS myself.

I very highly doubt it. Cam Motions yield good PTV clearance bc of their lobe design.

This statement alone puts our VRX5 on top of the mix. Our VRX5 camshaft makes incredible power from 3500 to 6800rpm while maintaining good streetability and having a very nasty lope.

Do a search for VRX5 on here and You Tube for videos/dyno graphs etc.

Give me a call if you have any other questions or would like to purchase a camshaft. We currently have 10% off all Comp products thru December to save you some cash!

I feel retarded explaining something to you Pred In all seriousness, ramps rates on Cam Motion cams are fast. On the exhaust side, the valve is open as the piston moves upward pushing the exhaust out. Right before the piston hits it the lifter starts on a downward slant. The ramps being quick on the Cam Motion will obviously yield to quick valve movements getting it away from the piston. Seems to me a softer ramp, everything else being the same, would move the valve slower and possibly make the valve be somewhat closer to the piston is said situation. I may be talking out of my *** though I am going to call the owner of Cam Motion (Kip) soon and talk over some details about their cams, and lobe design is gonna be one area I will pick his brain.

One measures PTV from about 10* BTDC to about 10* ATDC, what affects PTV mainly is Duration and The valve events chosen.
The shape of the lobe (agressive or non) has very little effect at the durations we run in general. For exemple XER Comp lobes are more agressive than standard Cam motion such as FM13 and such.

Pred-Z, thank you for your input. We may be slightly off point though. When I referenced Cam Motion, I was specifically talking about their branded cams, not the ones they make for Futral. I do not believe (although honestly have not confirmed yet) that these two seperate lines of cams are using the same lobes. You can see a distinct pattern in Cam Motion designs, whereas Futrals stuff varies more IMO. Which is better? I dunno I'm not a cam expert. I will say this though, I know for a fact, my Cam Motion shelf grind required .050 long pushrods WITH the taller cupped LS7 lifters. The base circles are tiny I also know that their shelf cams are designed by Kip the owner, and that they have been manufacturing cams since 1978. Thats 30+ years. I also got a personal invitation to call Kip and pick his brain about anything I'd like to know. And I will, soon.

I know none of that really changes the bearing on your advice.....or maybe it does?
